More "Why"

More "Why"

About 18 months ago I injured my back. A slip and near fall while we were gathered together to take a big family portrait with brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, friends, etc. We were all standing on rocks along a river bed. Not the surest of footings. My little brother accidentally fell back and bumped into me. While trying to stop myself from falling onto the rocks I twisted my body pulling what felt like every muscle in my lower back. Ouch!!

For the first couple of months I was pretty much immobile, movement was painful. I fell into a bit of a rut. I didn't want to paint. I knew long hours at the easel wouldn't be possible. I'm currently seeing a kinesiologist, things are improving, but I still have a long way to go. It's looking more and more like this will be a chronic issue. But hey...I'm here to tell the tale, that's what counts!

When I did venture back into the studio 9 months ago I knew I wanted (needed) to try something new. Something that wouldn't have me sitting at the easel for hours on end. One day I was scrolling, probably Instagram, when I ran across someone doing fluid art. I was fascinated! Some of it was really stunning. One thing you probably don't know about me is that even though I have painted realistically my whole life I also love and appreciate well done abstract art.

I dove in. I watched a million YouTube videos. Got the materials I needed, and have been experimenting ever since. From fluid acrylics I graduated to working with resin. That's where I am today. That might not be where I am tomorrow, but that is where I am today. I have not ruled out realistic still life, florals, or landscapes in the future. No, not at all. But I am out of the corner and that's where I'm going to stay! The art world is my oyster!

I'll be coming out with my first collection in a few days. There will be at least 20 small paintings to kick start this new adventure. It will be the first collection of many and I'm hoping you'll join me for the ride! I'll be posting a sneak peek this Friday (March 31st) for everyone on my email list. See you there!

From the studio...
